What's On (April 2007 - August 2007)

This page has information about the activities, events and groups taking place at the centre over the next few weeks and months. There is also information about the activities, events and groups taking place at our other centres at Tunstall, Burslem, Norton Rainbow House and Whitfield Valley Centre.

We produce a complete "What's On" newsletter every quarter. You can pick up a copy from the children's centre.

Festivals and Events

To increase children’s knowledge and understanding of the world, we incorporate festivals and events from around the world into our programme of activities. This encourages children to find out about their own culture and beliefs and those of others. Understanding that people have different experiences but that all these are important!

17th June – Fathers Day

Traditionally a day when cards and gifts are given to fathers as a token of appreciation for all their hard work.

19th June – Dragon Boat Festival

This Chinese Festival is now most notable for dragon boat races that take place between rowing boats shaped like dragons. People also go down to the rivers to picnic and celebrate on boats.

If you would like to contribute to any festivals or events by sharing your knowledge and skills with us we would really appreciate your involvement.

Activity Guide

Here are some of the activities that take place at our other centres. We hope that these activities will appeal to you

Stay and Play Sessions

These groups are run by Family Support Workers and enable both children and adults to socialise, share ideas and experiences, make new friends and learn new skills.

Let's Get Creative

Great fun for both adults and children. Learn and share new ideas for activities to do with your children. These sessions will also involve preparing food for cooking sessions (on a rotational basis).

Tiddlers Toddler Group

Meet other parents/carers and let your children socialise with others. Explore how children learn through play and how they pick up and share activity ideas.

Pitter Patter

This group is run by local mums who do fun activities with their children to promote the skills they will need for school.

Story Time

Come along and enjoy storytelling with your little ones. We also have a selection of library books you can borrow at any time to enjoy story time at home too.

Health Visitors (Drop in Session)

Ask for advice or help on matters concerning yourself or your family.

Baby Breastfeeding Café Support Group

Pregnant or a new mum? Our Baby Breastfeeding Café is here to give you information and support around breastfeeding. From how to start to how to stop and all the bits in between.

Crèche Guidelines at the Children's Centre

At the children’s centre we offer crèches to enable parents to access a range of courses provided. We aim to provide quality crèche by offering quality play and care for all children, to do this we need to have the following guidelines in place: -

  • Crèche places are allocated on a first come first served basis and need booking in advance of the course start date
  • When you register your child with the crèche you will be required to give the staff some information about your child, such as dietary requirements, allergies/illnesses etc. The staff will go through some forms with you and keep them on file to collect the relevant information
  • Whilst your child is in the crèche they will need the following items:-
    • complete change of clothes
    • nappies (if required)
    • any comforter that your child may have such as a blanket or favourite teddy
    • made up bottles (if required)
    • bibs (if required)

Staff members are always available at the beginning and end of the session to share information about your child.

Parent Representatives

A parent representative is available in each centre and any issues about services can be discussed with him or her, or noted in the centre's parent book. Parent representatives meet once a month to discuss any issues that have been raised.
